David is a Creative Director/Writer (also known for making great rice krispie treats). While working on his first graphic novel and animated series, he would like to share his short fiction, poetry and cartoons for free. That way, one day you'll buy his stuff because you’ll feel guilty if you don’t. David lives in New York City. If you'd like to contact him, his email address is david9 AT gmail DOT com.
Since 9/11, I've seen and heard the slogan, "If you see something, say something" countless times while riding the subway. While these words are warning passengers to keep an eye on unusual packages or terrorist-related activity underground, one day I encountered those very words on a sign hanging between two very shy strangers amorously looking each other's way. Suddenly, these words took on a whole new meaning. I've always felt that the best way to deal with hate is to throw love at it, devour the poison and make something beautiful from its "black food". So here's my attempt to infuse the words that were inspired by hateful actions with love (or in this case, fairytale love).
ReplyDeleteDavid - You make me proud every day. But today you managed to make me smile also...not so easy for me to do lately. I didn't expect such a romantic and optimistic Alternate Tracks at this time. How wonderful it was for me to see that your soul and your art are still powerful and optimistic. I know, as your closest, oldest and most loving fan, it may embarrass you to have me praise you on this public forum. Too bad..you deserve it. Wonderful work, as usual.
ReplyDeleteLove you always... Mom
On my way in to work today riding on the "tracks", I felt like a "pod" from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Following the rules, doing what's expected, being responsible, unemotional (actually not such a bad thing :) If life were a fairytale... Can it be? Live happily every after? Maybe not ever after, but hopefully happy most of the time. Good work DAS.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things about great art is that it comes from such a passionate and truthful place that it makes deception nearly impossible. When one tries, it never manifests how you want it to.
ReplyDeleteYour most recent "stop" on alternate tracks is a great example of that. The love and optimism that you saw and recreated from that phrase and scene speaks volumes to your true spirit.
The first thing that came to my mind was the Chinese proverb - "slander cannot destroy an honest man..... when the flood recedes the rock is there."
(Always) looking forward to your next "track!"
You ought to team up with steven spielberg
ReplyDeleteAnd create a New york extravaganza.

Lovely, David. Just lovely. I could write an entire play or movie just based off of that one moment you've captured so beautifully here.
ReplyDeleteBravo.
